The Yasutomo Man-Made Suzuri Stone is a flat grinding stone used to make Sumi ink. A sloping indentation and small well at one end, the Sumi ink stick is ground on the stone surface with water to produce liquid ink. The man-made stone is a combination of powdered natural stone and cementing compound, which is molded under high pressure to produce a quality economical stone.
