This tenugui (hand towel) is a Shinsengumi article and introduced during a TV season about the group in 2004. The Shinsengumi were a famous group of samurai that defended the government in the 1860s. This tenugui has the Shinsengumi banner in the center with the word truth . On one side of the tenugui are the rules of the Shinsengumi and on the other is a listing of the leaders of the group. A tenugui has all sorts of uses including drying one's hands, wrapper around the head or used as an apron. I used mine simply as a framed decoration. This particular tenugui is brand new...never used or taken out of the packaging. Bought in Japan in 2004 and stored. This one measures 35 x 13.5 .
