It seems to be abalone but when you google it it says its a shell and abalone is the outside and mother of pearl the inside 
so please take a look at the pics and ask any questions before purchasing.


It seems to be inlaid in black clay/grout and shiny like it was lacquered for strength and shine
If you see the pic of the back and the zoomed in one of the pulled thin foam it revealed wood as a base and this
creates a nice strong tray for display, staging a bedroom placed at the end corner, or any area
you'd like to add beauty to.
