This was removed from a Macpro 2009, and works for 2008 up to 2012, you can also use it in IMAC from 2009 to 2011, but you would need a caddy. You can use this in a Macbook Pro from 2009 to 2012 version. 
If you have more than one hard drive with an OS, just hold down the option key when you start up to select which drive you want to use.
